Bill's Doric Poem of the Week |
|---|
Tribute to the crew and families of the Solway Harvester
THE
HARVEST IS OVER
The daylight is breaking
The harbour lights grow dim
My eyes seek far horizons
My mind sees only him
The sea that lies before me
Has a heart as cold as stone
The harvest is over
And the harvester is gone
Run from the storm
The angry waters raging
Rise above the waves
Feel the power of the engine
A band of mothers sons
Sail the timeless sea
The harvest is over
Bring my harvester to me
The last haul is over
No more leaving with the tide
Memories last forever
Sorrow tinged with pride
The boats that fill the harbour
Sail a sea of tears
The harvest is over
When my harvester is here
The field is empty now
The springtime sees no sowing
The young mens laughter gone
Their seeds no longer growing
But the sea has let you go
No longer Im alone
The harvest is over
And the harvester is home
